The children were excited.

Because...

They were going to take part in a play.

孩子们很兴奋。

They all wore old fashion dress.

But why did they have a name tag on?

It was all about the history of the town.

The children were dressed as evacuees. /ɪˌvækju(ː)ˈiːz/

The play was going to be held in the park,

and the children had to rehearse their scene.

"I hope we don't forget what to do," said Chip.

Gran had come to watch the rehearsal.

"Our town was bombed in the war,"said Chip.

"The bombing was called the Blitz."

Gran could remember it.

Chip 说：我们的城镇在战争中遭到轰炸，这次轰炸被称为闪电战。

奶奶还记得那次闪电战。

"I was only a girl," she said,"but I remember the Blitz well."

她说：我那时候还是一个小女孩，但是我很清楚地记得闪电战。

"You wore awful clothes like these?" said Biff.

"We have to carry these boxes,"said Wilma. "But they are empty."

"They weren't empty in the war," said Gran.

"They had gas masks in them.

We had to take them to school every day."

The children didn't know a lot about the wars.

That was a long time ago.

The children rehearsed their parts.

In the play, they were sent away to live in the country.

It wasn't safe to stay in the town because of the bombing.

"We have to pretend to be upset,"said Wilma.

Chip tried to pull a sad face.

He made a loud noise blowing his nose.

"We shouldn't laugh," said Wilma.

The children are in a play about Would War Two.

They find it hard to be serious.

Why did Wilma say they shouldn’t laugh?

Gran spoke to the children.

"The war was a terrible time for everyone,"she said. "It wasn't funny."

奶奶对孩子们说。

她说：战争对每个人来说都是一个糟糕的时刻，这并不好笑。

"We're sorry, Gran," said Chip."But it was a long time ago."

Chip 说：我们很抱歉，奶奶。但是战争是很久以前的事情了。

After the rehearsal, Wilf and Wilma went home with Biff and Chip.

Chip thought about the war.

排练结束后，Wilf 和 Wilma 与 Biff 和 Chip 一起回家。

Chip 在想关于战争的事。

"It must have been a hard time for children then," he said.

"It's hard to imagine what it was like,"said Wilf.

"I can't wait to take these clothes off,"

said Biff. "I hate wearing this dress."

Suddenly the magic key began to glow.

The magic took the children off on another adventure.

It took them back to a street in London.

Magic Key 总是在他们想问题的时候发光。
