Dad and Biff were in Biff's room.

What were they doing?

They were looking at the carpet.

What a big hole!

Biff's carpet was torn.

be torn 被弄破了

** torn 是 tear 的过去分成

tear 扯破; 戳破; 撕开

Biff's carpet was torn.

It had a big hole in it.

Biff 的地毯被弄破了。

那个地毯上有个大洞。

Biff showed Dad but he said,

'We can't afford a new one. Sorry, Biff.'

Biff 给爸爸看了，但他说:

“我们买不起新的。对不起, Biff。”

afford 买的起

通常会和 can / could 连用

I can afford sth. 我买的起（某样东西）

I can't afford sth. 我买不起（某样东西）

We can't afford a new one.

Biff and Chip were shopping with Dad.

Dad wanted to buy a bookcase for Kipper' s room.

Biff 和 Chip 和爸爸一起购物。

They were in front of a junk shop.

A junk shop is a shop that sells cheap secondhand goods.

They saw one outside the junk shop.

I'll get this for Kipper,' said Dad.

爸爸说: “我要给 Kipper 买这个。”

Dad was paying for the bookcase.

What did Biff do?

Biff found an old carpet in the back of the shop.

"This would do for my room," she said.

She asked Dad if she could have it.

How was the carpet?

Dad looked at the old carpet.

"You don't want that thing." he said."It's old and dirty."

But Biff gave the OK sign.

"But I like it," said Biff. "Please may I have it?"

So Dad said, "Yes, as long as it doesn't cost too much."

So 于是，爸爸说：好吧，只要它别太贵。

When they were back at home.

Biff took it to the garden.

What did Biff do?

Biff beat the carpet.

It was full of dust and dirt.

"I didn't think a carpet could be so dusty,"

she said. "I wonder who had it last. Someone who didn't wipe their feet!"

Biff and Mum gave the carpet a shampoo.

"I don't think it has ever had a shampoo before," said Biff. "It looks better already."

Biff 和妈妈给地毯涂上 shampoo。

Biff beat the carpet.

Then，She gave the carpet a shampoo.

Now，It looked pretty good.

The carpet looked beautiful.

"It is a nice carpet," said Biff, "I told you so!

Biff 说：真是一块美丽的地毯。我早就说过的吧。

It looks quite old, so maybe it's worth a lot of money."

它看起来这么古老，说不定值很多钱呢！

Maybe it was a magic carpet.

Biff was in her bedroom reading a book.

Kipper came in and they sat on Biff s new carpet.

Kipper was learning to read and he wanted to read to Biff.

Suddenly, the magic key began to glow.

Another adventure had begun.

This time Biff and Kipper were on a flying carpet.

"This is a new kind of adventure." said Biff. "The carpet is coming with us."
