A sea mystery
Look at the picture,
Where do you think the children are?
Chip is pulling a rope.
Biff is turning the wheel.
Kipper is pointing to something.
They are on a boat.
They are at the sea.
They look upset.
What will happen in the story?
Let's open the book and turn to page 1.

“It’s the last day of the holiday,” said Kipper.
“I’ve seen something I want to buy before we go home.”
It’s the last day, 这是最后一天
of 是 “的” 的意思,
今天是什么的最后一天呢?
the holiday 假期
Kipper 说:“今天是假期的最后一天。”
I’ve seen something 我看到了某样东西
什么东西呢?
I want to buy 我想买
我看到了(我想买的)某样东西
before we go home 回家前,
“我看到了一些东西,我想在我们回家之前买。”
What did Kipper want to buy?

Kipper took Biff and Chip to an old shop.
Kipper 带着 Biff 和 Chip 去了一家老店。
(The shop was by the sea.)
Inside, it looked dark and dusty.
dust 灰尘 dusty 布满灰尘的
里面看起来又黑又脏。
So, How is the shop?
It's dark and dusty (not clean).
In the window was a model of a fishing boat.
model 模型
of 是 “的” 的意思
什么的模型呢?
a fishing boat
橱窗里有一艘渔船的模型。
(Kipper pointed at the boat.)
“I want buy that boat,” said Kipper.
Kipper 说:“我想买那艘船。”
The shop was full of things for boats.
be full of 装满了
商店里摆满了船上的东西。
An old man sat in the corner.
一位老人坐在角落里。
What was he doing?
He was sleeping.
“Excuse me,” said Chip.
“We’d like to buy the model boat.
How much is it?”
Chip 说:“对不起 Excuse me,
我们想买模型船。
I'd like to do sth... 我想要做某事
We'd like to do sth... 我们想要做某事
多少钱 How much is it?”

It’s not for sale,” said the old man.
“not for sale” means “you can not buy it” 非卖品
老人说: “这是非卖品。”
Why not?
“That boat is a model of my great grandfather’s fishing boat.
It was made after he was lost at sea.”
“lost at sea” means “he went to the sea and not came back”
“那艘船是我曾祖父的渔船的模型。
它是在他在海上失踪后制作的。
所以说,这艘船很有纪念意义。
这艘船的制作是用以纪念老人的曾祖父。
So, It was very special to the old man.
“What happened to him?” asked Biff.
Biff 问道:“他怎么了?”
“No one knows,” said old man.
“One day he went to sea in his boat and he never came back.”
老人说:“没人知道。”
“有一天,他乘船出海,再也没有回来。”
He was lost at sea.
What a sad story!
The children felt sorry.
The old man began to cough.
“Now go away. I want to shut the shop,” he said.
老人开始咳嗽。
他说:“现在走开。我想关店了。”
What a pity!
Kipper like the boat pretty well.
But, it was not for sale.

The old man shut his shop.
Kipper sat in front of the shop.
Kipper was upset.
“He wasn’t a very nice man,” he said.
Kipper 很沮丧。
他说: “他不是一个很好的人。”
“Never mind, Kipper,” said Mum.
“I’ll buy you an ice lolly to cheer you up.”
妈妈说:“没关系,Kipper,”
我给你买一个冰棍,让你高兴起来。”
Ice lollies were not bad.
The children sat on the sea wall eating their lollies.
Suddenly, they heard a cough.
It was the old man.
孩子们坐在海堤上吃他们的棒棒糖。
突然,他们听到了咳嗽声。
是那个老人。
He was holding a little model rowing boat.
他手里拿着一艘小模型划艇。
Why did he come with the little boat?
“What do you want?” asked Biff nervously.
Biff 紧张地问道:“你想要什么?”

“I am sorry I was rude,”said the old man.
“I’ve bought you a present.”
老人说: “对不起,我太粗鲁了。”
“我给你买了件礼物。”
He gave Kipper the little boat.
“It’s from the model you liked,” he said.
他把小船给了 Kipper。
他说: “这是你喜欢的模型。”
The old man was rude.
Because he was sad.
Now, he wanted to say sorry to Kipper.
The little boat was made of wood.
It looked very real.
It even had a little pair of oars.
这只小船是木头做的。
它看起来非常真实。
它甚至有一双小桨。
“Oh, thank you,” said Kipper.
He looked up, the old man had gone.
Kipper 说:“哦,谢谢你。”
他抬起头,但老人已经走了。
They loved the boat.
They didn't even know the old man had gone.

“It’s time to go home I’m afraid,” said Dad.
“Did you see where the old man went?”asked Chip.
“What old man?” asked Dad.
爸爸说:“恐怕是该回家的时候了。”
Chip 问道:“你看到老人去哪里了吗?”
爸爸问:“什么老人?”
It’s time to go home.
Look at the picture.
Where were the children now?
When they got home, the children went to Biff ’s room.
They wanted play with the model boat.
当他们到家时,孩子们去了 Biff 的房间。
他们想玩模型船。
“Oh!” said Chip. “I’ve broken off an oar!”
Chip 说:“哦!我把桨给弄下来了!”
Just then the key began to glow.
就在这时,钥匙开始发光。
What will happen next?
