What is a Power Cut？

A power cut is a period of time when the electricity supply is stopped.

There is no electricity.

A power cut 就是 “一段时间停止供电，停电” 的意思

Do you ever remember having one?

What did you do for fun when there is no electricity?

Can you watch TV?

Ok, Look at the front cover.

The children looked sad.

Dad came in with a torch.

There was a power cut.

No Television.

No games.

What can they do that doesn't need electrical power?

What will happen in the story?

Let's open the book and turn to page 1

The family was going on holiday. 

They were taking Biff and Chip. 

Mum and Dad were busy packing the car. 

pack 就是 “收拾行李” 的意思

一家人要去度假。

他们带 Biff and Chip 一起去。

妈妈和爸爸正忙着装车。

What a lot of things!

“Will you pack these for us, please?” asked Wilma. 

Wilma 问：请把这些给我们装上好吗？”

The car was almost full.

And the children wanted to take more.

Look, what did the children hold?

Wilf had a game station.

Wilma held some DVDs.

Biff had lots of cds.

What did the children think they would do on holiday?

“There will be lots to do,” said Dad. 

“You won't need those.”

爸爸说：会有许多事要做，你们不需要这些。

“We will,” said Wilf. 

“We must take the game station.

I've got a great new game.”

Wilf 说：我们需要的，

我们必须带上游戏机。

我有一个特别好的新游戏。

What did Wilf want to do when the family was on holiday?

He wanted to play games.

What did Wilma and Biff want to pack?

“We want to watch these films,” said Wilma.

“We haven't seen some of them yet.”

“And can we take the CD player?” asked Biff.

Wilma 说：我们想看这些电影。

其中的一些（电影）我们还没有看过呢。

Biff 问：我们能带上光碟机吗？

So, What did the children want to bring on holiday?

They wanted to bring the game station, films and the CD player.

It was a long journey. 

It took hours. 

They stopped for a break.

这是一次长途旅行。

花了好几个小时。

他们中途停下来休息。

What did mum want?

“Let‟s get a drink,” said Mum. 

妈妈说：我们去喝点东西吧。

I could see a CAFE.

and there was a game arcade next to it.

The children wanted to play.

长途跋涉，妈妈想喝点东西。

我看到一家咖啡店 a CAFE。

在咖啡店的左边，那家店是干嘛的呢？

game arcade，是 “游戏厅” 啦，

所以呢，孩子们想进去玩。

“Can we play a game in the arcade first?” asked Wilf. 

Wilf 问：我们能在游戏厅里玩会游戏吗？”

如果我是他们的妈妈，我一定会说：no way！

哈哈，我们赶时间呢~

At last they arrived at the cottage.

终于他们到达了乡间别墅。

It was a nice place.

We can see trees everywhere.

We must have lots of fun there.

But what did the children think?

“We're in the middle of a forest,” said Wilf. 

Wilf 说：我们在森林的中央。

“We're in the middle of nowhere,” said Wilma. 

"in the middle of nowhere" means "the place was far away"

Wilma 说：我们前不着村后不着店的。

Do you think the children like the cottage?

not really.

They went inside the cottage. 

Mum and Dad began to unpack the car. 

他们走进别墅。

妈妈和爸爸开始卸车。

unpack the car 就是 “卸载” put things out of the car

前面的 pack the car 呢，就是 “打包，装东西” put things into the car

What did the children do?

Did they help?

No, they didn't.

They were so happy to find a television.

There was a big television in the front room.

在前厅有个大电视。 

“Great!” said Chip. “Let‟s watch TV.” 

Chip 说：太好了！让我们看电视吧。

“We could play some games,” said Wilf. 

“Could you bring in our games station, Dad?” 

Wilf 说：我们可以玩游戏。 

你能把游戏机拿进来吗，爸爸？

“Not now,” said Dad. “Come and help us unpack the car.” 

爸爸说：现在不行，来帮我们卸车。

There were lots of things in the car.

Dad and Mum were busy unpacking the car.

Look, what did Mum and Dad do?

Mum prepared breakfast for the children.

Dad had a cup of tea.

What did the children do?

Oh no!

They were still in their pajamas.

At breakfast Wilma put on a film. 

吃早餐的时候，Wilma 放了一部电影。

The children were having breakfast while watching the TV.

孩子们边吃早饭，边看电视。

Dad sighed. “Get dressed everyone. 

We didn’t come on holiday to watch TV.”

爸爸叹了口气：大家穿好衣服。

我们是来度假，不是来看电视的。

“Can we watch this first?” asked Wilma. 

Wilma 问：我们能先看这个吗？

“Later,” said Dad. “Let's go out.” 

爸爸说：等会吧，让我们出去（玩）吧。

“Wasn‟t it fun on the beach today?” said Mum. 

But nobody said anything. 

妈妈说：今天去海滩不好吗？

但是没人吱声。

Mum was mad.

Dad was thinking of something.

Did he have some ideas?

What were the children doing now.

They dressed up.

Wilf and Biff were busy playing a game. 

Chip and Wilma were listening to a CD. 

Wilf and Biff 正忙着玩游戏。

Chip and Wilma 正在听光碟。

The children seemed to enjoy themself.

Would they spend all the holidays in front of TV?

They should do something more interesting.

for example, go to the beach, play together.

Suddenly all the lights went out.

The television and the CD player went off. 

突然，所有的灯灭了。 

电视和影碟机关了。

There was no electricity.

“What's happened?” called Biff. 

Biff 喊到：出什么事了？

Dad came in with a torch. 

“There's been a power cut!” he said.

爸爸拿着手电筒进来。

他说：停电了！

How do the children feel about the power cut?

The children were upset.

Mum found a lamp. 

妈妈找来一盏灯。 

“What if the power doesn't come back on?” asked Chip, looking at the TV. 

Chip 看着电视机问：要是电不来怎么办？

“We'll have to do without it,” said Dad. 

爸爸说：我们必须离开它了。 

 “Oh, no!” said the children. 

孩子们说：哦不！

What did they do for fun when the power was off？

What will happen next？
